Course Description

We will be focusing on a constellation of issues in ethics, metaphysics, and the philosophy of mind:

  1. What has the moral status of a normal adult human being? Do embryos have the same moral status we do?  Do people with irreversible dementia?

  2. Do animals have minds? Could computers or robots have minds someday?

  3. Could we survive the death of our bodies and brains?  What is the relationship between the mind and the brain?
